Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 26 September 2026
ChessPe is a platform on which independent organisers list chess tournaments and players register and pay online. Tournaments are conducted by their organisers, not by ChessPe. This policy explains when a payment made on ChessPe is refunded and forms part of our Terms & Conditions.
1. What you pay for
A payment on ChessPe is a registration for a specific tournament. Your receipt shows the entry fee (and any registration fee) set by the organiser, the ChessPe platform fee, and, for some payment methods, a convenience fee charged by the payment gateway. ChessPe provides a digital service and does not sell or ship physical goods, so no shipping or delivery applies.
2. Who sets the refund terms
Each tournament’s refund terms are set by its organiser and shown on the tournament page before you pay — for example “full refund until 3 days before the event” or “entry fee non-refundable”. Those terms decide whether a withdrawal is refunded. The organiser is responsible for the refunds it owes; ChessPe processes them through the payment provider.
3. If the organiser cancels the tournament
Every player who paid through ChessPe receives a refund of the entry fee and the ChessPe platform fee. When the organiser cancels the tournament on ChessPe, a refund is raised automatically for every paid registration — you do not need to ask. A gateway convenience fee is refunded where the payment provider returns it.
4. If you withdraw
Whether you receive a refund, and how much, follows the tournament’s refund terms. To ask, use Request Refund on the registration in your account, or email support@chesspe.com with your registration number. The organiser decides the request under its published terms. Unless those terms say otherwise, the platform fee and the gateway convenience fee are not refunded on a withdrawal.
5. Payment errors
If you were charged more than once for the same registration, or charged without a registration being confirmed, write to us with the transaction details and we will have the extra or unconfirmed amount refunded once the payment provider confirms it. Amounts debited for a transaction that failed are normally reversed by your bank or payment provider automatically.
6. Changes to a tournament
If an organiser materially changes a tournament’s date or venue, any refund for players who can no longer attend is decided by the organiser under its terms. Contact us if you need help reaching the organiser.
7. How refunds are paid
Approved refunds are paid only to the original payment method, not in cash or to another account. Once ChessPe initiates a refund, banks and payment providers usually take 5–7 business days to credit it; the exact time depends on them.
8. Not refundable
- Not attending, arriving late, or being unable to play, unless the tournament’s terms provide a refund.
- Disqualification or removal by the organiser or arbiters for breach of the tournament’s rules.
- A registration cancelled because the information you gave (for example age or eligibility) was false.
- Dissatisfaction with results, pairings, prizes or arbiter decisions, which are matters for the organiser under its rules.
9. Help and grievances
Email support@chesspe.com with your registration number. We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and will work with the organiser and the payment provider to resolve them. See the Grievance Officer details in our Terms & Conditions.
